The Site Supervisor has many responsibilities, the main responsibility is to ensure that all workers are kept safe and the general public are kept safe. Organisations will decide their own approach to supervising but main qualities of a Supervisor should include making sure they are trained and competent in carrying out their role, making sure they are aware of the important of the Site Supervisor and ensuring they have sufficient time and resources to deal with all health & safety issues that can arise.
It is imperative that each supervisor makes sure that the worker knows how to work safely and without risk to their health, and have absolute understanding of the organisation’s rules. The supervisor should coach and help them in areas they are less competent in. a Supervisor should always be aware of who is working on the site, and also make themselves as contactable as possible, making sure the right people have their number. A supervise should also should be capable of performing emergency first aid at work, so you may need to complete a course and acquire a ‘first aid at work’ certificate.
Training courses such as the site supervisors training scheme or SSSTS and IOSH Leading Safely are regarded as the go-to Supervisor training schemes. If you would like to book either of these courses please get in contact with 01473 830255.
