We were delighted to receive notification that our sister company, Eastern Roof Training’s bid to run 3 programmes using CITB’s Careers Fund had been successful this week.
CITB recently made funding available to ‘Influence the Influencers’, the idea behind this being that parents, teachers, carers and careers advisers are not always the best informed when it comes to careers in Construction and that there a lots of misconceptions. Our aim is to change that, which is why Eastern Roof Training will be going in to local councils, schools and associations to provide information advice and guidance on careers in construction. We will then be hosting practical construction sessions at our training centre to give those influencers the opportunity to test their construction skills themselves and see how rewarding and enjoyable it can be.
CITB also tasked us with writing a programme aimed at students at the Pre-GCSE stage (9-13 year olds). Although we have done lots of work with high school students before, these have always aimed at those aged 14 and above as a way of encouraging this age group to chose a career in construction once they leave school. However, this time we will be targeting younger students with a view to increasing their awareness and understanding of the variety of careers involved in the construction industry. This aim will be split across 2 programmes, one involving us going into primary schools and delivering construction awareness sessions whereby students will receive information advice and guidance coupled with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at some construction themselves. The second programme will involve those just starting high school attending our training centre for the first time where they will too receive information advice and guidance along with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ on some of our practical construction training rigs.
If you are from a High School, Primary School, Trust, Council or Association and would like to get involved with our programmes, please feel free to get in touch!
Our aim as ever is to provide a fun, unique experience for all those involved, whilst ensuring we deliver the objectives set out by CITB in Influencing the Influencers and raising awareness of careers in construction among 9-13 year olds. We are sure the projects will be a huge success and look forward to getting started!
