A construction Site Supervisors is a vital role when it comes to safety on site and ensuring the smooth running of the job. A Site Supervisors has a number of responsibilities when working, here we are going to explain the main duties so that you can be sure you are meeting your jobs requirements whilst working on site.
As a Construction Site Supervisor, you will be given the responsibility of assessing the risks associated with the task being carried out and determining the likelihood that the accidents are likely to occur. So how is this done? Regular site inspections should be carried out by a supervisor so that they can identify any potential risk and quickly put in place a sufficient control measure to negate the risk. If the risk cannot by negated through your action, it should be highlighted to a site manager who can put measures in place.
A Site Supervisor is not only responsible for Health & Safety on site but for team performance too. Team performance means ensuring that anyone you are supervising are performing their task in an efficient manner and within the allotted time frame. You may find that certain members of the team need additional motivation, encouragement or even discipline, all of which you will be responsible for giving. You will also be responsible for mentoring any members of staff that need extra support and be their point of contact for should they need it.
A toolbox talk allows you to explore the risks of specific health & safety issues on your site and think about ways to deal with any issues. Toolbox talks should focus on a single task and be held regularly for greater impact. Toolbox talks are often no longer than 15 minutes so they need to be delivered in a precise way that is easy to understand. It is useful to pre-plan your toolbox talk to ensure you are covering the points you wanted to, whilst it also advisable to seek feedback from the listeners to ensure they have fully understood the message, or have any alternative points they would like to discuss.
