All workers that are involved in refurbishment or maintenance could be at risk of exposure during their work. This includes:
- Heating and ventilation engineers

- Carpenters and joiners
- Plumbers
- Roofing contractors
- Painters and decorators
- Plasterers
- Construction workers
When am i most at risk?
- Workers are most at risk from asbestos when:
- The building being worked on was built pre 2000
- Asbestos containing materials were not identified before the work begun
- asbestos-containing materials were identified but this information was not passed on by the people in charge to the people doing the work
- you haven’t done a risk assessment
- you don’t know how to recognise and work safely with asbestos
Remember
- Asbestos cannot be seen or smelt
- The effects of asbestos may take years to show
- People that smoke and are exposed to asbestos fibres are at a higher risk of developing asbestos related diseases than those who do not smoke
- asbestos is only a danger when fibres are made airborne and breathed in.
