How it Works
- Apprentice attends college 1 day a week and works with employee the other 4 days on ‘on the job training’
- Apprentice studies towards a Level 2 Built up Bituminous Diploma and Level 2 Built up Bituminous NVQ
- Mixture of theory and practical sessions

The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in the following mandatory units:
– Safe Working Practices in Construction
– Information, Quantities and Communication
– Building Methods and Construction Technology
– Apply Built-Up Bituminous Roofing
– Prepare Decking for Built-Up Bituminous Roofing
– Repair and Maintain Built-Up Bituminous Roofing
– Install Bituminous Roofing by Torch-On and Pour and Roll Methods – (Practical Synoptic Assignment)
Cskills Awards Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Waterproof Membrane Systems (Reinforced Bitumen Membrane)
The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
– Applying Reinforced Bitumen Membrane Systems in the Workplace
– Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
– Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
– Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
– Preparing Surfaces for Membrane Roofing Systems in the Workplace
– Repairing Membrane Roofing Systems in the Workplace
Duration
This course covers a two-year period. Candidates will attend day release off the job training at the roofing college/ roof training centre once a week. The remainder of the time is spent with the employer on site, gaining experience necessary for the assessment on the NVQ/SVQ Diploma which is carried by an assessor from the training centre.
Funding
Grant payments are available for Construction Industry Training Board members (CITB) subject to terms and conditions of approximately £5000-£6000 Per Apprentice.
