Following the death of 9 month old Millie Thompson at a nursery in 2012 a review of first aid in nursery’s was conducted. Training in paediatric first aid will now be compulsory in England for nursery staff.
childcare and education minister Sam Gyimah announced ‘Today’s proposals will mean that thousands more staff will be fully trained in paediatric first aid and able to respond to emergencies more quickly.
The first aid training will prevent further fatalities in the future and is seen as a great step in improving the level of training within nurseries.
